 . As of today, June 20, 2024, the death toll has risen to 36, with nearly 70 people hospitalized.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night, June 18, when a group of men, primarily daily wage laborers, consumed illicit liquor laced with methanol. By Wednesday, they began experiencing severe symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, stomach aches, and eye irritation.

The Tamil Nadu government has taken swift action, with Chief Minister MK Stalin expressing shock and ordering action against officials who failed to prevent the sale of illicit liquor. Police have been deployed to maintain order and investigate the case.

This incident highlights the dangers of consuming unregulated alcohol and the need for stricter measures to curb its availability.
